Vibe-Coding Visiontypes: Strategy at the Speed of AI

AI prototyping collapsed the distance between an idea and an experience you can click. A year of using it inside our visiontype work taught us where the leverage actually is.

The game changed fast. A working, interactive prototype used to be weeks of effort. Now it's an afternoon. AI-assisted vibe-coding means almost anyone can build an interface that stakeholders experience rather than imagine, and once you've watched an executive team react to a thing they can touch instead of a deck they can nod at, you don't go back.

But speed without strategy is just expensive chaos. The most beautiful prototype in the world can't save you from solving the wrong problem. It can make the wrong problem look extremely convincing.

We've spent the past year folding vibe-coding into our visiontype practice. A visiontype is a prototype of the future: not a feature demo, but a concrete, experiential argument for where a product should go. What the new tools changed is the cost of making that argument. What they didn't change, and in fact exposed, is the scarce part: knowing what to build, whether anyone wants it, and getting leaders aligned behind the answer. When execution gets cheap, judgment is what's left.

How this plays out in practice

It depends on where a team is standing. Some teams align best by building, not talking. Get the right eight people in a room for a day or two, pair structured prompting with real strategic framing, and you leave with several rough prototypes and, more importantly, the argument between them out in the open. The prototypes are disposable. The alignment isn't.

Other teams have done the exploring and need to commit. That's the full visiontype process: research, hard trade-offs, and a polished interactive prototype that makes the chosen direction impossible to misunderstand, along with the roadmap to make it real.

And for high-stakes initiatives where adoption is the open question, the prototype becomes an instrument. Put it in front of real users, watch what they actually do, and walk into the investment decision with behavioral evidence instead of opinions.

The sequence never changes: strategy first, technology second. Vibe-coding is the medium for communicating validated strategy. It is not a substitute for the thinking.

Why experience beats explanation

A static presentation tells stakeholders what you think. An interactive prototype lets them experience what you mean. That difference transforms how a leadership team weighs trade-offs and commits to a direction, because the debate stops being about slideware interpretation and starts being about the thing itself.

This holds even among the people building with AI every day. In Figma's 2025 AI report, 52% of AI builders said design matters more for AI-powered products than for traditional ones. The tools made making easy. They made deciding what to make more valuable, not less.

Enterprise work sharpens the point. Prototyping a consumer app and steering an enterprise product strategy are different problems. The second one comes with organizational dynamics, technical constraints, and a room full of stakeholders who each hold a piece of the decision. A fast prototype doesn't resolve any of that. A fast prototype in service of a rigorous process does.
